A small dimensional difference may look harmless on one bar, but across hundreds of tons it can become a serious commercial issue. That is why pre-delivery inspection should confirm the actual product against the purchase order.

Check Rebar Diameter Correctly

The first step is to confirm the nominal diameter and the applicable standard.

Deformed rebar has ribs, so diameter inspection should follow the relevant standard and approved measuring method rather than simply measuring across the highest rib points.

Buyers should also confirm the grade, rib pattern, and size range against the purchase specification. If dimensional tolerances are important for your project, include them clearly in the RFQ or purchase order.

Verify Unit Weight and Bundle Weight

Rebar is often purchased by metric ton, but theoretical weight and actual delivered weight must still be controlled.

Unit weight is related to nominal diameter and bar length. During inspection, suppliers may weigh sample bars or complete bundles and compare the results with the order requirements and permitted tolerances.

Bundle weight also matters for warehouse handling and unloading. If your crane or forklift has a maximum lifting capacity, tell the supplier before packing.

Confirm Bar Length Before Shipment

Standard rebar lengths may include 6 m, 9 m, 12 m, or other project-specific lengths depending on the market and order.

Before shipment, sample bars should be checked with a suitable measuring tape or length-measuring system. Cut lengths should match the agreed tolerance because incorrect lengths can create waste, additional cutting, or installation delays.

Match Inspection Results with Shipping Documents

Final checking should connect the physical cargo with the packing list, bundle tags, quantity, grade, size, and total weight.
